EAP providers may wish to utilize these interventions for clients on a short term basis in order to help affected individuals - whether they be the perpetrator or the receiver of uncontrolled anger or abuse.

In EAP situations, referral on to longer term treatment may be needed, as indicated. Know relaxation interventions, which target emotional and physiological components of anger 2. Know specific cognitive interventions, which target cognitive processes such as hostile appraisals and attributions, irrational beliefs, and inflammatory thinking 3.

Know how to teach communication skills interventions, which target deficits in assertiveness and conflict resolution skills.

Understand that use of cognitive techniques to control anger is a STRENGTH-BASED approach which can be employed in multiple situations - on the job, within the family, with colleagues, within the community to avoid legal repercussions, and in situations in which the use of alcohol had been previously utilized in response to anger.
